I looked for a smooth looking buttonhole that would look goon on a double knitted garment.
Norman from the NimbleNeedles podcast did a tutorial for many types of buttonholes, and I was amazed to learn about the grafted double knitting buttonhole - the perfect solution for my jacket! yay!!!! Thank you Norman for this enlightenment!
The way to do it, is to work to the place of the buttonhole, work the buttonhole with a scrap yarn, then slip the scrap yarn sts back on to the LH needle, and work them again with your working yarn (very similar to an afterthought heel).
Once there's a significant amount of fabric over the buttonhole, it is safe to place the top and bottom sts held by the scrap yarn to DPNs, and graft the bottom layers together and the top layers together, to get a clean round look to the edges.
See in the photo how nice it looks!
A full video tutorial will be a part of the pattern - as well as the workshop.
I'll upload it here when it's ready!
